(Semarang – 15 May 2026) – On 6 May 2026, a team of lecturers from the Aquatic Resources Management (MSP) Programme, Department of Aquatic Resources, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Diponegoro University, carried out a community service activity at Prawean Beach, Bandengan Village, Jepara Regency. This activity aimed to raise public awareness of the importance of waste management in preserving the coastal and aquatic environment.
Prawean Beach is one of the coastal tourist areas with significant tourism potential in Jepara Regency. However, the issue of waste remains a challenge that requires collective attention. Therefore, a community service team from the MSP programme, comprising Mr Arif Rahman, S.Pi., M.Si; Dr Ir Haeruddin, M.Si; Mr Kukuh Prakoso, S.Pi., M.Si; and Ms Diani Estining Tyas, S.Pi., M.Pi, participated in this community service initiative as a form of the university’s contribution to supporting better and more sustainable coastal environmental management.
The community service initiative was carried out for local residents and tourism managers to raise awareness of the importance of waste management to prevent pollution of the aquatic environment. As a tangible form of support, the community service team donated two 100-litre waste bins designed for the separation of organic and inorganic waste. The donation was received directly by the Head of Prawean Beach Management, Mr Sukri, to be used in maintaining the cleanliness of the coastal tourist area.
It is hoped that through this initiative, the community will gain a better understanding of the importance of waste management and actively participate in maintaining the cleanliness of the coastal environment. Furthermore, it is hoped that this initiative will help reduce waste-related issues at Prawean Beach, which have the potential to pollute the aquatic environment and degrade the quality of the tourist area.
The MSP Undip lecturer outreach team hopes this activity can serve as a first step in fostering an environmental awareness culture among coastal communities and strengthening collaboration between universities and the community in sustainably preserving aquatic resources.
