The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Diponegoro University (FPIK UNDIP), through a community service team from the Department of Aquatic Resources has carried out a community service activity entitled “Handling Restaurant Waste in the Tourism Area around Teluk Awur, Jepara.” This activity is part of the Community Service Grant program for the Even Semester of 2025/2026.

Teluk Awur Village as a popular marine tourism destination in Jepara Regency faces environmental challenges, especially related to oil waste from restaurants and culinary activities on the beach. Responding to these challenges, the service team led by Dr. Aninditia Sabdaningsih, S.Si., M.Si., with members Prof. Dr. Ir. Suradi Wijaya S., M.S. and Atika Arifati, S.Pi., M.Sc.., provided solutions through counseling and application of appropriate technology in the form of a “grease trap” in one of the beach restaurants, namely Lumintu Restaurant.

A “Grease trap” is a tool that filters oil and fat from kitchen waste before it is discharged into waterways, preventing environmental pollution and drainage blockage. This technology is in line with efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially points 6 (clean water and proper sanitation) and 14 (marine ecosystems).

This activity was carried out for four months and included surveys, coordination, tool making, counseling, and monitoring. Counseling to restaurant managers was held on May 17, 2025, and was greeted enthusiastically by participants, of restaurant owners to waiters.

Through this activity, FPIK UNDIP not only educates the public about responsible waste management but also participates in preserving the coastal and aquatic environment, maintaining tourist attractiveness, and increasing the environmental awareness of culinary businesses in tourist areas.
