AQUATIC, SEMARANG – The Community Service Team of the Aquatic Resource Management Study Program chaired by Oktavianto Eko Jati, S.Pi., M.Si has carried out service activities in the Tambak Mulyo area, Semarang City in order to provide information transfer and also technology related to the introduction of waste plastic and domestic waste management (12/04/2021). This team consists of 4 people, namely Prof. Norma Afiati, M.Sc., Ph.D.; Dr. Ir. Pujiono Wahyu Purnomo, M.S.; Nurul Latifah, S. Kel., M.Si; and Kukuh Prakoso, S.Pi., M.Sc.
The existence of problems related to the accumulation of waste and the lack of public awareness of the negative impacts of waste or waste are factors that decrease the level of health and sanitation in the region. Moreover, in a pandemic like this, environmental health also plays a role in influencing public health. The lack of containers and knowledge regarding waste sorting is also lacking in the area, therefore the service team helps in providing knowledge regarding the nature and characteristics of domestic waste. In addition, the team also provided information on technology in the form of a container that functions to sort out the types of domestic waste, in order to identify the types of waste that are easily decomposed, recycled and those that are difficult to decompose. By sorting the waste, the people of Tambak Mulyo can use organic waste to turn it into compost that is beneficial for plant fertility. Regarding the use of organic waste that is converted into compost, the team also provided information regarding the manufacture of compost from organic waste, and also provided a “Compost Bag” container that serves to facilitate the manufacture of compost.
Not only sorting and handling waste, the team also provided insight and technology related to planting procedures using a hydroponic system. This Community Service activity uses Mandiri Fund chaired by Nurul Latifah, S.Kel., M.Sc. Hydroponics is very easy to apply in urban areas. This is aimed at helping the Tambak Mulyo community to provide vegetables that are useful for nutritional adequacy during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The first material presented was about hydroponic plant cultivation which was presented in the form of leaflets. Then a demonstration was conducted of installing a hydroponic device from a paralon pipe, placing lettuce seeds that are ready for planting into a planting basket in the holes in the paralon pipe, dissolving AB fertilizer. Then the manufacture of nutrients for lettuce with a concentration of dissolved solids or TDS of 630 ppm using liquid fertilizer AB and fresh water (rainwater) which has a TDS level of 45 ppm. Followed by the laying of nutrients in the tub that has been connected to the paralon, and irrigating the paralon pipe. All technology transfers in the form of a set of hydroponic tools and materials (1 set), 50 lettuce seeds ready for planting along with rockwool, as well as 5 leaflets containing simple hydroponic methods, the concentration of dissolved solids required for each type of plant and the harvest period for each type of plant have been submitted. to the head of Poklahsar “TERATAI”.
