The Student Go International program initiated by Diponegoro University through the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science Diponegoro University demonstrates its commitment to enhancing students’ global competencies. The program facilitates international research internships for students from the Aquatic Resources Department, particularly those in the Aquatic Resources Management program, at Universiti Putra Malaysia. The students are Fellycita Marshanda Krisdhiarto and Ghaida Fatimatul Zahra Mustofa.

Activities in the Laboratory

Students from the Aquatic Resources Department successfully completed a one-month research internship focusing on microplastic-degrading enzymes derived from symbiotic bacteria of ascidians. This research is part of a World Class University Research initiative aimed at supporting sustainable aquatic resource management.

The research was conducted at the Bioremediation, Biomonitoring, and Ecotoxicology (BBE) Laboratory using bacterial cultures grown in PET-based media to evaluate PETase enzyme activity. The findings highlight the significant potential of these symbiotic bacteria in degrading microplastics, contributing to innovative solutions for marine pollution.
