Jepara, 17 May 2025 – In order to increase public awareness of the importance of safety and security in water tourism, the Community Service Team from the Department of Aquatic Resources (SDA), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) Diponegoro University (UNDIP), held a socialization activity at Teluk Awur Beach, Jepara.
The activity which took place on Saturday, May 17, 2025 was chaired by Oktavianto Eko Jati, S.Pi., M.Si., with team members consisting of Prof. Norma Afiati, M.Sc., Ph.D., Dr. Pujiono Wahyu Purnomo, M.S., and Dr. Diah Ayuningrum, S.Pd., M.Si.. This activity is a concrete form of academic contribution in supporting safer and more responsible beach tourism management.
In collaboration with BUMDes Teluk Makmur, chaired by Mr. Muji Arwani, A.Md., this socialization was attended by around 20 residents from the Teluk Awur area. The event began with remarks from the Head of the Department of Natural Resources FPIK UNDIP, Dr. Churun’Ain, S.Pi., M.Si., who emphasized the importance of the role of local communities in maintaining the safety of beach visitors.
The next speech was delivered by the Chairman of BUMDes, who welcomed the initiative from FPIK UNDIP and hoped that this activity could be the beginning of a sustainable collaboration.
In the main session, the service team presented material on safety aspects of water tourism, including potential risks, danger signs in the beach area, and first aid procedures in water accidents. The material was delivered interactively with the aim of fostering understanding and preparedness of residents and beach managers.
As a form of concrete support, the service team also handed over Appropriate Technology (TTG) tools in the form of 1 safety appeal board and 4 Handy Talkie (HT) units to the beach manager. It is hoped that this equipment can help communication and coordination between officers in maintaining visitor safety, especially in times of emergency.
One of the participants, Mrs. Dwi, a member of the Teluk Awur Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), expressed her appreciation for this activity. “We hope that this activity can increase the knowledge of the managers in maintaining security at the beach. Hopefully, it will also benefit the tourists who come,” he said.
Through this activity, the Department of Natural Resources FPIK UNDIP shows its commitment to supporting the sustainability and safety of marine tourism destinations, as well as strengthening the synergy between universities and the community in better coastal area management.
